USB Signature Pads for PC: Interface and Connection Guide

A signature pad for PC is only as good as its connection to the counter terminal. This guide maps every DS model to its interface: USB-A on the 10.1-inch workhorses, USB-C on the 5-inch mobile pads, Type-C plus dual USB-A on the DS1040, and HDMI on the 15.6-inch displays, with official OS support notes for your rollout plan.

USB-A: The Standard PC Counter

DS101S, DS1020, DS1030 and DS1031.

Four 10.1-inch models connect over USB-A, the connector found on virtually every counter PC and thin client in service today. For branch rollouts that keep existing terminals, USB-A models drop into the current estate without adapters or dock changes. The DS1020 product data adds that only one USB cable is needed to power the device, so installation is one cable per counter position with no separate power supply to provision, secure or replace.

OS support on the USB-A models is Windows 7 or later across all four, and the DS101S product data states that operation on Windows and macOS are both supported, which covers mixed-OS estates where some counters run macOS. The DS1040 also carries USB-A ports alongside Type-C, and its official data states support for many operating systems, so heterogeneous fleets can standardize on one model. Detailed model comparison is on the 10-inch signature pad page.

USB-C: The Mobile and Modern Terminal

DS510, DS510S, DS530 and DS530S.

The 5-inch band connects over USB-C, the single-cable connector on modern laptops, tablets and compact terminals. One cable carries power and data, which is the entire installation story for a field kit: pad, cable, host device. At 270 g to 600 g these pads travel in a bag, and the USB-C connection means the same cable that charges the host can drive the pad.

For IT planners this also simplifies spares: USB-C cables are commodity items stocked everywhere, unlike proprietary power adapters. The 5-inch models are compared in full on the 5-inch signature pad page, including the fingerprint options on the DS510S and DS530S for mobile identity capture.

HDMI: The Display-Class Counter

DS1610 and DS1640.

The 15.6-inch DS1610 and DS1640 connect over HDMI, treating the signing display as what it is: a 1920 x 1080 display with pen input. Counters driven by a PC or thin client with video output take the display without any USB display driver dependency, which suits standardized workstation images where IT prefers not to add driver packages.

OS support on both models is Windows 7 or later and macOS 10.11 or later. Where the signing application runs on the counter PC and the display simply needs to show documents and capture signatures, HDMI keeps the deployment inside the existing workstation standard. See the 15.6-inch display page for the full specification.

Computer Signature Pad Deployment Checklist

Questions to answer before you order.

  • What connector does the counter terminal expose today: USB-A, USB-C or HDMI output? Match the band to the answer and avoid adapter fleets.
  • Does the counter PC run a locked workstation image? The DS1020 single-cable USB-A design and the HDMI models minimize driver and power-supply exceptions.
  • Is the estate Windows-only or mixed with macOS? The DS101S and the 15.6-inch models carry explicit macOS support in the official data.
  • Will the same project mix fixed counters and mobile staff? The DS line shares 233PPS, 5080LPI and battery-free EMR pens across USB-A, USB-C and HDMI models, so one application serves all three.
  • Does signing need to reach an ERP or a private deployment? The DS1040 lists support for many operating systems, private deployments and ERP integration.

Interface questions that depend on your terminal estate are answered during quotation: send your terminal list to [email protected] and the interface match is confirmed model by model.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which DS signature pads use USB-A?

The DS101S, DS1020, DS1030 and DS1031 list USB-A. The DS1040 lists Type-C plus two USB-A ports.

Which models use USB-C?

The DS510, DS510S, DS530 and DS530S list USB-C with single-cable power and data.

Why do the 15.6-inch models use HDMI?

The DS1610 and DS1640 are 1920 x 1080 display-class devices; HDMI connects them to the counter PC or thin client as a display with pen input.

Can one application drive USB-A, USB-C and HDMI models together?

Yes. All eleven models share the 233PPS report rate, 5080LPI pen resolution and battery-free EMR pen platform, so integration targets the platform, not the connector.

Is macOS supported?

The DS101S supports Windows and macOS operation, and the DS1610 and DS1640 support Windows 7 or later and macOS 10.11 or later. Other models list Windows 7 or later.

All specifications on this site are taken from the official product data of the corresponding Huion model. Where a model lists an optional module, availability of that option is confirmed during quotation. Certificates available upon request.
