The Battery-Free EMR Stylus
A stylus is the part of a pen-input system the end user actually holds - and the part most likely to fail at the worst moment. Huion's B2B devices use battery-free EMR styluses: no charging, no batteries to replace, no downtime. Across published device specifications, pen resolution is recorded as 5080LPI and sensing height as 10mm - these are device specifications, stated here as recorded on the device pages.
Why Battery-Free Matters
The stylus is the part of a pen-input system the end user actually holds - and the part most likely to fail at the worst moment. A battery-free EMR stylus removes that failure mode entirely: there is no battery to charge, no cell to replace and no charging routine for staff to remember.
That matters most where devices are shared: signing pads at bank counters, service halls, hotel front desks and retail points of service. The stylus is always ready because readiness does not depend on anyone remembering to charge it.
This is the stylus technology behind Huion's B2B signing line. The DS101S page states its pen "needs no battery or charge"; the DS1030 page states EMR technology enables "long-time service without battery or charging". Module projects: custom EMR modules.
What Published Device Specifications Record
The figures below are recorded on Huion's published device pages. They describe finished devices - not standalone module specifications.
Battery-Free EMR
Pen technology recorded as "Electromagnetic Resonance" or "Battery-free Electromagnetic Resonance" across the DS signing line and the A4/A5H.
5080LPI
Pen resolution recorded across the DS signing device specifications.
10mm
Sensing height recorded across the DS signing devices and the A4.
±0.5mm (Center)
Accuracy at the center of the sensing area, as recorded on DS device specifications.
Stylus and Device Pairings
Huion documents each stylus with the device it ships with. The pairings below are the only ones stated on the company's B2B product pages:
- DS101S - PW202
- DS1020, DS1030 - PEN57
- DS510 - PEN57S
- DS510S - P13
- A4 - PW310
- A5H - PW202 / PW310 (optional)
Full device-paired specification tables are on the EMR pen family page. For projects pairing a stylus with a custom module, see EMR pen modules; for the underlying principles, EMR technology.
The Stylus in a Custom Project
When a project pairs a custom digitizer module with a stylus, the stylus is not an afterthought: it is qualified together with the sensor. Huion's pen-plus-module program develops the two as one system, so the writing experience you validate in sampling is the experience your customers receive in mass production.
The starting point is always a documented pairing. The five pens on the EMR pen family page - PW202, PEN57, PEN57S, P13 and PW310 - are each qualified with specific Huion devices, and their device-paired specifications are published in the tables there. A custom project builds on one of these pen platforms and confirms the final pairing during the inquiry.
Because the stylus draws its power from the sensor field, there is no battery compartment to design around and no charging contacts to protect - which simplifies the industrial design of both the stylus and the device it ships with.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a stylus different from a digital pen?
In Huion's documentation the terms overlap: "digital pen" is the product term (PW202, PEN57 and others), "stylus" the generic category. Both refer to the battery-free EMR handheld.
How does a battery-free stylus receive power?
From the sensor's electromagnetic field - see how EMR works.
Can I source the stylus without the device?
Stylus supply is handled per project - contact [email protected] with your device concept and volumes.
Which stylus works with a custom digitizer module?
Pairing is confirmed per project; the pen-plus-module program validates stylus and module as one system.
Are certificates available?
Certificates available upon request. Mention target markets in your inquiry to [email protected].
What does 5080LPI mean for the user?
LPI means lines per inch: how finely the sensor grid resolves pen position. Published Huion device specifications record 5080LPI pen resolution across the DS signing line, which is why signatures and handwriting render smoothly at normal writing speeds.
